Eleotridae [Eleotridae]
Description
The Eleotridae family, commonly known as sleeper gobies, comprises species that are often found in fresh, brackish, and marine waters. Unlike the true gobies of the Gobiidae family, sleeper gobies have their pelvic fins separated rather than fused into a disc. They are generally larger and possess a more elongated body. These fish are predominantly bottom-dwellers in estuarine and coastal habitats, where they prey on small invertebrates and fish. Sleeper gobies are known for their ability to survive in low-oxygen environments, a trait that enables them to inhabit stagnant or slow-moving waters.
