Malacoraja [Malacoraja]
Description
Malacoraja is a less commonly known genus of skates, with species primarily found in the Atlantic Ocean. These skates are characterized by their relatively small size, soft, velvety texture of the skin, and a lack of strong, pronounced spines on their dorsal surface. They inhabit sandy and muddy bottoms where they feed on small invertebrates. Due to their obscure nature and deepwater habitats, much about their biology and ecology remains to be discovered.
