Smooth Skate [Malacoraja senta]
Description
The Smooth Skate, or Malacoraja senta, is a species of skate found in the Northwest Atlantic from Newfoundland and the Gulf of St. Lawrence to New Jersey. It is mostly found at depths of 45 to 1,300 meters. It is characterized by a smooth upper surface with no thorns, and a diamond-shaped body.
