Description
Gigantidas hyotlensis, commonly known as the Hydrothermal Vent Mussel, is a species of bivalve in the family Mytilidae. This species is endemic to hydrothermal vents in the Pacific Ocean near Japan. It is named after the Hyotl Hydrothermal Field, where it was first discovered. The species is adapted to the extreme conditions of hydrothermal vents, with a symbiotic relationship with chemosynthetic bacteria that live in their gills and provide nutrients.
