Mussels [Mytilida]
Description
Mytilida is an order of marine bivalve molluscs known as mussels. Mussels have elongated, asymmetrical shells and are often found forming dense colonies attached to rocks, docks, and other hard substrates in intertidal and subtidal zones. They are filter feeders, drawing in water to extract their planktonic food. Some species are important for aquaculture and are cultivated for food, while others are used in biofiltration to clean water.
