Weasel Sharks [Hemigaleus]

Description

Hemigaleus is a genus of sharks within the family Hemigaleidae, commonly referred to as weasel sharks. Members of this genus are characterized by their slender bodies, short snouts, and the presence of a nictitating membrane (a protective third eyelid) over their eyes. They typically inhabit shallow coastal waters in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, where they prey on small fish and invertebrates. Hemigaleus species are distinguished by their coloration, often featuring a combination of grey, brown, and white tones, as well as their distinctive dorsal fins, which are smaller compared to those of other sharks.
