Phalarope [Phalaropus]

Description

Phalaropus includes the phalaropes, small shorebirds known for their unique feeding behavior of swimming in tight circles to create whirlpools, bringing small prey to the surface. They are distinctive among shorebirds for their partially webbed feet, adapted to their swimming lifestyle. Phalaropes are highly pelagic outside the breeding season, often found far from land on the open ocean.
