Wilson's Phalarope [Phalaropus tricolor]
Description
The Wilson's Phalarope is a small wader. This bird breeds in the prairies of North America in western Canada and the western United States. It is migratory, spending winters in inland salt lakes near the Andes in Argentina. The species is about 23 cm (9.1 inches) in length, with lobed toes and a straight, thin bill. Breeding adults have gray-brown upperparts, a white throat, a gray-brown breast, and a dark patch of feathers through the eye to the back of the neck.
