Red-necked Phalarope [Phalaropus lobatus]
Description
The Red-necked Phalarope is a small wader. This bird breeds in the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia. It is migratory, spending winter at sea in the tropics. It is about 18 cm (7.1 inches) in length, with lobed toes and a straight, thin bill. Breeding adults are gray-brown with a white cheek patch contrasting with a black throat, and a brown cap. In winter, the plumage is gray above and white below.
