Red Phalarope [Phalaropus fulicarius]
Description
The Red Phalarope, also known as Grey Phalarope, is a small wader. This phalarope breeds in the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia. It is migratory, and at other times is pelagic, out at sea. It is about 21 cm (8.3 inches) in length, with lobed toes and a straight, thin bill. Breeding adults are a deep red color with dark brown cap and a thick vertical white stripe behind the eye. In winter, the plumage is basically gray above and white below.
