Paralichthys [Paralichthys]
Description
Paralichthys includes several species of large lefteye flounders that are significant to commercial and recreational fisheries, especially in the North Atlantic. These flounders have a preference for sandy and muddy bottoms near coastal areas. They are distinguished by their large size, ability to change color for camouflage, and the unique pattern of spots and lines on their bodies. Paralichthys species are predatory, feeding on a variety of fish and invertebrates.
