Stargazers [Uranoscopidae]
Description
Uranoscopidae, commonly known as stargazers, are unique for their top-mounted eyes and upward-facing mouth, giving the appearance of looking towards the stars, hence their name. They are found worldwide in shallow marine environments. Stargazers bury themselves in the sand with only their eyes and mouth visible, awaiting prey. Some species are capable of delivering electric shocks to stun prey or deter predators.
