Southern Stargazers [Astroscopus]
Description
Astroscopus genus comprises species known as Southern Stargazers. These fish are characterized by their unique ability to generate electric shocks, up to 50 volts, to stun prey or defend themselves. They have eyes on top of their heads, allowing them to bury themselves in the sand while keeping watch for prey or predators. Their diet mainly consists of small fish and invertebrates.
