Yellow-eyed Penguin [Megadyptes antipodes]
Description
The Yellow-eyed Penguin or Hoiho is a penguin native to New Zealand. Its distinctive yellow eye and surrounding stripe make it easily identifiable. This penguin is medium-sized, approximately 65 to 79 cm long, and weighs between 5 to 6 kg. The Yellow-eyed Penguin is typically a forest dweller. They feed on small fish and squid, caught during foraging trips in the ocean. They are a solitary species, choosing to nest under trees or in other covered areas, away from other penguin species.
