Winter Skate [Fenestraja rhina]

Description
The Winter Skate or Fenestraja rhina can be found in the Western Atlantic, ranging from the Gulf of Maine to Cape Hatteras. They inhabit sandy or muddy bottoms at depths from 18 to 120 meters. The Winter Skate is distinguishable by its kite-shaped body and light brown to grayish coloration with small dark spots. The species is also characterized by its slow growth, late maturity, and low reproductive rate.
