Softnose Skates [Arhynchobatidae]

Description

Arhynchobatidae, or Softnose Skates, is a family within the order Rajiformes that is closely related to the true skates. Softnose Skates are characterized by their flexible, rounded snouts and the absence of a rostral cartilage, a feature that distinguishes them from other skate families. These skates inhabit a variety of marine environments, from shallow to deep waters, and are found in oceans worldwide. They tend to have a diet that consists mainly of small invertebrates and fish. Softnose Skates also reproduce by laying eggs in protective cases. Despite their global distribution, many species within this family are poorly understood, and their conservation status often remains uncertain.
