Winghead Shark [Eusphyra blochii]
Description
The Winghead Shark is a species of hammerhead shark, and part of the family Sphyrnidae. It is distinctive for its 'hammer', which is proportionally larger than other hammerhead species, nearly half the total length of the shark. This species is primarily found in the warm, tropical waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, often in shallow bays and estuaries. It is a relatively small shark, rarely growing longer than 1.8 meters. The Winghead Shark is known for its highly migratory behavior and is primarily a fish eater, although its diet can also include cephalopods and crustaceans.
