Winghead Shark [Eusphyra]

Description

Eusphyra is a genus containing the sole species, the Winghead Shark, Eusphyra blochii. This genus is distinguished by its extremely wide head, which can be up to 50% of the shark's total length. The Winghead Shark inhabits shallow, coastal waters in the western Indo-Pacific region, often found in bays, estuaries, and near coral reefs. Despite its broad head, which enhances sensory perception, little is known about its behavior or ecology due to its rarity and elusive nature.
