Snipefish [Macroramphosus scolopax]
Description
The Snipefish, sometimes considered a type of Shrimpfish, is found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. It prefers deeper waters, often between 200 to 700 meters. It is characterized by a long, slender, and laterally compressed body, a long tubular snout, and a single, prominent, upright spine on the back. Unlike other Shrimpfishes, the Snipefish swims in a horizontal position.
