Description

The Smooth Anglerfish is a marine species that can be found in the Western Atlantic, from North Carolina in the USA to Brazil. This fish is benthic, living on the seafloor, particularly on soft substrates. It has a robust, rounded body with a wide, large mouth. Its most distinguishing feature is its smooth, scaleless skin, hence its name. The Smooth Anglerfish is a solitary creature, often burying itself in the sand with only its eyes and lure visible to catch its prey.
