Short-snouted Seahorse [Hippocampus hippocampus]
Description
The Short-snouted Seahorse, scientifically known as Hippocampus hippocampus, is a species of seahorse in the family Syngnathidae. It is found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean from the British Isles to Morocco and in the Mediterranean Sea. They prefer to live in seagrass beds and among the algae and corals where they use their prehensile tail to anchor themselves. They are characterized by a short, thick snout and a body covered with bony plates. This species is ovoviviparous, with males carrying eggs in a brood pouch before giving birth to live young.
