Ribbon Seal [Haloceratia fasciata]

Description
The Ribbon Seal is a medium-sized pinniped from the true seal family. Adults are recognizable by the distinctive pattern of two pairs of white or light-colored bands, or ribbons, that circle around the neck, front flippers, and body. They inhabit the Arctic parts of the North Pacific, particularly in the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. Ribbon seals spend most of their lives in the water, rarely coming to land. They are solitary animals, with males and females coming together only for mating.
