Description

The Ornate Rainbowfish is a small freshwater species native to Papua New Guinea. They are well known for their striking colors and patterns. Adults typically grow to a length of about 6 cm. Their bodies are slender and laterally compressed, with males exhibiting brighter colors than females. They inhabit slow-moving, shallow waters, particularly in areas with dense vegetation. They are omnivorous, primarily feeding on small invertebrates and plant matter. Notable for their distinct mating behavior, males perform elaborate displays to attract females.
