Mediterranean Spotted Cockle [Laevicardium pictum]

Description
Laevicardium pictum, also known as the Mediterranean Spotted Cockle, is a species of bivalve mollusc in the family Cardiidae. It is native to the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea. This species prefers sandy or muddy substrates in which to burrow. The Mediterranean Spotted Cockle is characterized by its pattern of dark spots on a cream or white background. Like other cockles, it is a filter feeder, consuming plankton and other microscopic organisms from the water column.
