Highfin Soapfish [Rypticus carpenteri]
Description
The Highfin Soapfish is another species in the Spinycheek sleepers genus. It is found in the western Atlantic Ocean, primarily in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. It can grow up to 25 cm in length. This species is characterized by its high dorsal fin and its brown or grey coloring with pale spots. Like the Greater Soapfish, it also produces a toxic mucus as a defense mechanism.
