Atlantic Stargazer [Uranoscopus scaber]
Description
The Atlantic Stargazer, Uranoscopus scaber, is a marine species found in the Atlantic Ocean, from the British Isles to South Africa and also in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a benthic species living at depths from 20 to 500 metres, often buried in the sand or mud with only its eyes showing. It has a flat body, large upward-facing eyes and a large mouth. This ambush predator feeds on fish and crustaceans that pass overhead.
