Alaska plaice [Pleuronectes quadrituberculatus]

Description

The Alaska plaice is a flatfish found in the North Pacific. It is a large righteye flounder known for the four large, bony tubercles located behind its eyes. The species inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms in cold, deep waters, ranging from the Sea of Japan to the Gulf of Alaska. Alaska plaice are bottom dwellers that feed on polychaetes, crustaceans, and small fishes.
