Slender flounders [Syacium]

Description

Syacium encompasses a group of flatfishes known as slender flounders, inhabiting the sandy and muddy bottoms of tropical and subtropical waters in the western Atlantic Ocean. These flounders are recognized by their elongated, slender bodies, eyes on the right side, and subtle coloration, which helps them blend into the ocean floor. They feed primarily on small invertebrates and are adapted to a life of stealth and ambush predation.
