Slope Cod [Urophycis chuss]
Description
The Slope Cod, scientifically known as Urophycis chuss, is a marine species found in the northwest Atlantic Ocean. This species prefers a cold, deep-water environment, typically found at depths of 180 to 550 meters. They have a tapering body shape with a rounded tail and a small head. The Slope Cod is brownish-grey in color with a lighter belly and has a prominent lateral line and two dorsal fins. This species is primarily demersal, spending most of its time near the seafloor.
