Bearded Brotula [Polymixia nobilis]
Description
The Bearded Brotula, also known as the Beardfish, is a benthic species found in the Atlantic Ocean. They inhabit depths of 180 to 1,640 feet, preferring muddy or sandy bottoms. With an elongated body and a single continuous dorsal fin, they are distinguished by a barbel or 'beard' on the chin. They are generally silver or pinkish in color, with a maximum reported length of 38 centimeters.
