Gizzard shad [Dorosoma cepedianum]
Description
The gizzard shad is a small, silvery fish with a deep body and thin tail. The species is native to fresh and salt waters of eastern North America. The fish has a small, toothless mouth, and a sharp-edged belly. It is primarily a filter feeder, but will also eat small organisms.
