Shearwaters [Calonectris]

Description

Calonectris includes species commonly referred to as shearwaters, known for their long, slender wings and capability of performing long-distance migrations. These birds have a bulky body with a mainly brown or grey plumage and are distinguished by their effortless flight, barely skimming the ocean's surface. Shearwaters are pelagic, feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans, and breed in colonies on islands, nesting in burrows.
