Petaloproctus [Petaloproctus]
Description
Petaloproctus is a genus within the family Pectinariidae, characterized by their distinctive tube-building behavior, using sand and shell fragments. Unlike some of their relatives, Petaloproctus species have a narrower range of tube shapes and sizes. These worms have a segmented body with a well-developed head, equipped with feeding and sensory appendages. They play a role in the marine ecosystem as detritivores, processing organic matter within the sediments. Petaloproctus species are found in a range of marine habitats, from intertidal zones to deeper waters.
