Pectinaria [Pectinaria]

Description

Pectinaria is a key genus within the Pectinariidae family, commonly referred to as ice cream cone worms due to the conical shape of their constructed tubes. These tubes are made from glued-together sand grains and shell fragments. Pectinaria worms have a unique set of golden bristles around their head, which are used for filtering food particles from the water. They are adept at burrowing and can often be found in sandy or muddy substrates at the bottom of the ocean, ranging from shallow coastal areas to deeper sea environments.
