Description

Nemichthys, another genus within the Snipe Eels family, features species with remarkable elongation of the body and jaw. These snipe eels are known for their slender and elongated bodies, which can reach several feet in length, while remaining incredibly thin. Their jaws are also significantly elongated, equipped with small, sharp teeth for feeding on a variety of marine organisms. Nemichthys species are found in deep-sea habitats worldwide, from the mesopelagic to the bathypelagic zones, where they pursue a pelagic lifestyle.
