Isozoanthus [Isozoanthus]
Description
Isozoanthus is a genus of marine zoanthids within the family Epizoanthidae, characterized by their anemone-like appearance and behavior. These zoanthids are primarily found in deep-sea environments, attaching themselves to hard substrates or living in association with other deep-sea organisms. Isozoanthus species are known for their solitary or loosely colonial lifestyle, contrasting with the more tightly packed colonies of other genera. They exhibit a range of colors, often adapting to their deep-sea environment with darker hues. The polyps of Isozoanthus are elongated with a well-defined oral disk and long, slender tentacles, adapted for capturing detritus and small organisms in their deep, nutrient-sparse habitats.
