Hammerhead Sharks [Sphyrna]
Description
Sphyrna is the largest genus within the family Sphyrnidae, comprising several species commonly known as Hammerhead Sharks. These sharks are renowned for their distinctive hammer-shaped heads, called cephalofoils, which house advanced sensory organs that help in detecting prey. Members of this genus vary in size, habitat, and behavior, ranging from the relatively small Bonnethead (Sphyrna tiburo) to the massive Great Hammerhead (Sphyrna mokarran). Hammerhead Sharks are found worldwide in warmer waters along coastlines and continental shelves. They are highly migratory species, with some known to form large schools during the day. Despite their fearsome appearance, they are considered to be of low danger to humans.
