Description
Centrophorus is a genus of deep-sea sharks in the family Squalidae, commonly referred to as gulper sharks. These sharks are named for their large mouths and ability to gulp their prey whole. They have elongated, slender bodies, and small, luminescent eyes adapted to the dark depths of their habitat. Gulper sharks are found worldwide, from tropical to temperate seas, typically at depths below 200 meters. They are slow-moving, relying on surprise and the cover of darkness to catch fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans.
