Giant Limpets [Scutellastra]

Description

Scutellastra is a genus of large-sized limpets within the family Patellidae, notable for their broad and often very large shells, which can reach impressive sizes. These limpets are found in various parts of the world, including the coasts of Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. They inhabit intertidal zones, attaching themselves to rock surfaces where they are exposed to strong wave action. Scutellastra species are herbivorous, feeding on a diet of algae scraped from the rocks. Their large size and the structural strength of their shells provide effective protection against predators and the physical forces of their environment.
