Bargmannia [Bargmannia]
Description
Bargmannia is a genus of siphonophores known for their unique structure and life in the ocean's midwater zones. The colonies are supported by a gas-filled float and consist of a series of branching stems with feeding, reproductive, and locomotive zooids. These organisms are capable of bioluminescence, which they use for attracting prey or deterring predators. Bargmannia species contribute to the marine ecosystem by feeding on small zooplankton.
