Athorybia [Athorybia]
Description
Athorybia is a genus within the Physophoridae family, consisting of siphonophores that live in deep-sea environments. They have a distinctive appearance with a float at the top of the colony from which dangle long tentacle-like structures composed of individual zooids. These zooids work together for the colony’s feeding, reproduction, and protection. Athorybia species play a role in the ocean's vertical migration, moving up and down in the water column to feed.
