True Crocodiles [Crocodylidae]

Description

The Crocodylidae family, known as True Crocodiles, includes the largest and most widespread of the crocodilians. This family is characterized by members that have a more V-shaped snout compared to the alligators and caimans, and a fourth tooth on the lower jaw that is visible when the mouth is closed. Marine representatives like the Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) are highly adept at living in both freshwater and saline environments, making them the most marine-tolerant of the crocodile families. They are found in regions ranging from India and Southeast Asia to northern Australia, utilizing estuaries, mangroves, and even venturing into the open sea.
