Description

Acanthuridae comprises medium-sized, colorful fish, known for the scalpel-like spine on either side of the caudal peduncle, used defensively. Surgeonfishes are primarily herbivorous, grazing on algae in tropical reefs, and play a vital role in maintaining the health of coral ecosystems.
