Halibuts [Pleuronectidae]

Description

Halibuts are a part of the Pleuronectidae family, often considered among the largest species of flatfish. They inhabit cold waters of the North Pacific and North Atlantic Oceans. Distinguished by their large size, halibuts are demersal fish that feed on a variety of sea life. They have diamond-shaped bodies and, like other righteye flounders, both eyes are located on the right side. Their ability to blend into the ocean floor makes them formidable ambush predators.
