Atlantic Halibut [Hippoglossus]
Description
The genus Hippoglossus comprises large, flat fish found in the North Atlantic and as far west as Greenland. The Atlantic Halibut, part of this genus, is known for being the largest flatfish, reaching up to 2.5 meters in length and weighing as much as 320 kilograms. These fish prefer cold waters and are found on the sea floor, often at depths between 50 and 2,000 meters. They are predators, feeding on a variety of smaller fish and invertebrates.
