Calyptraeids [Calyptraeidae]
Description
Calyptraeidae, also known as slipper snails, cup-and-saucer snails, and Chinese hat snails, are a family of small to medium-sized marine gastropods. Their shells vary from conical to cap-shaped. Calyptraeids are sequential hermaphrodites, starting life as males and often becoming females as they grow. They can be found attached to rocks, other shells, or even each other in intertidal to subtidal zones.
