Venus's Girdle [Cestum veneris]

Venus's Girdle
Description

This species is a large, ribbon-shaped ctenophore, reaching lengths of up to 1.5 meters. It is found in warm and temperate seas worldwide. Its thin, transparent body can exhibit a range of colors from clear to pink or violet, depending on the angle of light. Venus's Girdle is carnivorous, feeding on small planktonic animals. It can move in any direction without turning its body, thanks to the eight rows of cilia present on its body.
