Southern African Frilled Shark [Chlamydoselachus africana]
Description
The Southern African Frilled Shark is a rarely seen species of shark found in the waters off southern Africa. It dwells in depths of around 1,000 to 1,300 meters. This species is similar in appearance to the Common Frilled Shark, but can be distinguished by its fewer number of vertebrae and different tooth morphology. It has a long, eel-like body and six pairs of frilled gill slits.
