Pacific Longfin Anchovy [Pterengraulis edentulus]
Description
The Pacific Longfin Anchovy, or Pterengraulis edentulus, is native to the eastern Pacific, from Mexico to Peru. Similar to its Atlantic counterpart, it is a small fish with a long body, typically measuring less than 10 cm in length. It is distinguished by its long pectoral fins that reach beyond the base of the anal fin. This species can be found in a variety of habitats, including coastal areas, estuaries, and rivers. It feeds primarily on plankton and small invertebrates. The Pacific Longfin Anchovy also displays a schooling behavior.
