Pacific Blackdragon [Idiacanthus antrostomus]
Description
The Pacific Blackdragon is a species of barbeled dragonfish. Females can grow up to 61 cm in length while males, like in other species of the genus, are much smaller and simpler, often not exceeding 5 cm. The Pacific Blackdragon possesses photophores and is capable of producing light, which aids in its survival in the deep sea. This species inhabits the North Pacific, from Japan to the Gulf of Alaska, and south to Baja California and is usually found at depths of 200 to 1,500 meters.
